We decided to put two great news reader apps back to back in a battle and see who comes out on top. The beast reader apps for your phone are for sure Flipboard and Pulse.
Flipboard is a social network aggregation app that is 2 years old and was presented on the app store when it first came into existence. During May of 2012, it was made available for all the Android smartphones out there on Google Play. During the December of 2012, it also became available for your Android tablets.
With the Flipboard app, you are able to chose interests and flip through those interests to find news that you want to read. There are even some websites that have Flipboard content that is specialized for the app. An example of this is LA Times. You do not have to scroll through the information; you simply have to flip through each paragraph of the post. The is one of our favorite features. You are also allowed to connect the app via Twitter and Facebook and share content that you find interesting.
Flipboard experience: This app is easy and fast. It gives you control over your favorites interests and has a nice design.
Pulse News
Pulse news is a bit of an older application and it is 3 years old as of today. It displays news in a different fashion than Flipboard does. If you decide to pick a certain interest such as technology news, the Pulse app will give you the best links that it can find from the biggest technology websites. You would get links from sites such as TechCrunch with this feature. Pulse News allows you to save certain content and read it at another time with Read it Later, Evernote, and Instapaper. We will do a future review of these applications.
It is easy to jump through the news by simply tapping right or left on your phone. If you chose a post, you are able to see the latest content by tapping left or right from that website. This is a feature that Flipboard does not have.
Pulse News experience: This app is a fun, easy and fast way to get the news that you need.
Conclusion: Pulse News Wins!
With Pulse News we felt like we had more control over the content that we wanted to read. The Pulse platform is layed out better and it shows you more articles from certain websites that are known for producing quality content. In the end, Pulse News is an app you should try out for yourself.
